Post Re: Effort to Re-Create Petoskey's Light
I contacted the USACE before they poured the new concrete base for the D9, and got the finished dimensions for the base. I then had our local, friendly architect place a 3D rendering of that base within a 3D rendering of the proposed replica historic tower, and confirmed that the concrete base will fit inside without any problem.

We hope to have a construction budget complete by the end of the week, and with that in hand, we can see if we can scare up the necessary funds to proceed with the project.

Post Re: Effort to Re-Create Petoskey's Light
Dick and I appeared before the Petoskey Parks and Recreation Commission last night. The Commission was very positive towards installing the shore-based replica, and voted unanimously to support the project. In order to provide the general public with the opportunity to voice support of concerns, the Commission will be scheduling a public hearing either late in May or early in June. Barring any major negative public input, the next step will be to present the concept to the full City Council for a vote. If that is positive, fund raising will begin soon thereafter.

We will be making a presentation as part of this hearing on June 2.
Keep your fingers crossed that there is little, or non, negative public feedback.

Post Re: Effort to Re-Create Petoskey's Light
We made our presentation on erecting a replica of the 1912-1924 Petoskey breakwater
light before a hearing of the City Parks Commission last night. Happily there was only one
negative comment voiced by a citizen, with all other comments being overwhelmingly
positive. After public comment, the Parks Commissioners voted in favor of recommending
the project be approved by the City Council. It is hoped that the project can be added to
the agenda for the City Council for a vote next Monday.

The image below was displayed on an easel during the hearing. It was created at the Parks
Manager’s request by the City’s park architects to give the community an idea of how the
replica might appear in the park.

The park is located right on US 31, on a steep bluff, approximately 70 feet above the water,
and can be seen from the entire water front, making it an excellent location for the replica.

Here is a report on the hearing from today's Petoskey News-Review.

Post Re: Effort to Re-Create Petoskey's Light
We attended the City Council meeting last night, and there is still disagreement as to what represents the best location for the replica structure. As such, the matter was tabled - to be raised at a future Council meeting.

Here's a link to today's article in the Petoskey News Review:

http://www.petoskeynews.com/news/article_8ce8b5b2-7dfa-11df-92cc-001cc4c03286.html

The photo in the article shows a city bucket lift in the park with its bucket elevated to the same 41' height of the original breakwater light. The City Parks Manager had it placed there and then took photos from various locations showing the good visibility of the structure in that location.
