Martha's Vineyard is the site of my oldest real memories of visiting lighthouses.
Esther and I spent our honeymoon which coincided with Columbus Day weekend in October 1974 on Cape Cod.
I found a motel in Buzzard's Bay to stay in and we drove all around the Cape and even took the Ferry over to Martha's Vineyard. Luckily someone told me not to try and take my car over for the day since it was the last day of the holiday weekend and we p[robably would have spent hours in line trying to get back.
We walked right up to the Edgartown, East & West Chop Lights and drove out to Gay Head as well. We took a ride over to Chappiquidick but not all the way out to the light there.
It was a great day weather wise and enjoyed our time on the Cape - a great start ot our married life. Somehow we did not become serious lighthousers until 1999, though.
Strangely enough a faux lighthouse was actually responsible for that- Harbortown on Hilton Head.
