Last Saturday a small work crew of 4 met at the Portsmouth Harbor light to give the light a little TLC.

Here are a few photos from the day. Thought some of you out there might recognize a couple of faces.

Here's Jeremy working on sanding the stairs and railings to be painted next Saturday. Definitely a tough job for the knees.

Ross, a.k.a. Paint Boy is seen here adding a coat of primer to the watch room ceiling. Just the coat of primer on the ceiling much such a huge difference that the walls had to be done as well.

:D Nice pictures Shirin - It looks like you guys had a great day for the workday! - I was on my way home from the Outer Banks. We got to see Cape Hatteras, Bodie Island and of course Currituck Beach Lighthouse! Today I went in for a CT Scan and the doctor said everything looks good! Hope everyone is doing fine!

My best,

Shirin,

Thanks for sharing your photos. I wish I lived closer to a lighthouse so I could be more involved with them. Maybe one day?

Paul,

Glad to hear of your safe return and the good report from the doctor. I trust you had a good tip and will be sharing photos?
Stephen

Well Stephen, I live in a town with 3 lighthouses. they are all off shore lights, so I still need to drive at least 3 hours away to places like Portsmouth to be of some help to a light. I've tried numerous times to get involved with the Sheffield Island light but they just don't like to call me back I guess. So, I guess I'll keep going to where they take my calls. So much for the ones in my own back yard.

You can see the ceiling behind me that the tannin from the wood has come through the paint. We're using a stronger, longer lasting primer for this job, the a top coat.

After doing the watchroom ceiling, the wall became more noticeable. It wasn't horrible, but we had the extra paint. The watchroom is a waiting spot during our open houses, and the walls get a lot of human touch and can get dirty over time. It's looking good so far, hopefully we can begin the floors and stairways on Saturday!

Thought I'd add a couple more pics to this rogues gallery!

Here are Paint Boy, Shirin (aka Roller Girl) and Anthony Savino of NELL on a much deserved break:

And here's Roller Girl herself:

I should mention that the Sherwin Williams store in Portsmouth donated all the paint for this work, and that Paint Boy (aka Ross) donated a very large portion of the supplies, in addition to being in charge of the work. The Coast Guard was helpful as always, also.

Glad to see Portsmouth receiving expert TLC! :P

Wish I could be of more help too, Stephen.

Good luck and fun to you all.

Paul, glad to hear you are doing fine and you had a nice/safe trip.

You're welcome. I meant it with all due respect, of course -- maybe "Roller Woman" would be more appropriate.
