It's very heartwarming to me to hear present day occupants at lighthouses talk about how meaningful the experience is for them and their families, and how privileged they feel to have this opportunity. I've met an Army officer living in the keeper's residence at Old Point Comfort at Fort Monroe, and two consecutive families serving as the modern day keepers at Currituck, and they all express the same thing. The Army officer was a history buff, so he appreciated being at Fort Monroe in the first place, but when the keeper's house became available, he jumped at the opportunity for his family.

Nice story. Thanks for posting it, Barry.
