I've been using lighthouse friends for years now to do lighthouse location research, and when I got on tonight I found that they have really done some nice work. They have ditched their old map system and integrated their site with Google maps. Now when you view lights by map you go to Google maps with their icons marking all the lights. This is cool because you can now have a fully interactive map to get door to door directions & all that cool stuff.

Just thought I'd share for those of you who hadn't noticed it yet.

Couldnt agree more ... Just got back from a trip that included some unlikely lights and by clicking on the LF map, the coordinates become the destination and the directions become perfect ...

Worked perfectly for me ...

I ended up using LH friends in conjunction with the GPS navigation feature in my iPhone to get me to a couple of lights along the St Lawrence river. Very handy!

I guess I'm the odd man out on this update.

I do like the interactive maps- but I preferred the way the lighthouses were identified on the previous map. In the case of the new maps you don't see the name of each lighthouse until you click on the point on the map.

It makes it a bit more difficult to find a specific lighthouse especially in an area there are several near each other.

I'll adjust I'm sure- Lighthouse Friends is one of the best sited to use to research a trip otherwise. I've used both the written directions and GPS coordinates and been very satisfied with both bits of information.

It's usually the first- and quite often the last- place I go to setup my actual route. It's even better now since they are adding Canadian Lighthouses to thier database.

They've definitely done a great job with their recent changes, they're a lot more accurate than they used to be, I'm sure from the increasing use of GPS.

I started using google maps about a year or a little more ago for a LH.net guide, I never displayed the blocks, but there was a map for each state. I finished most of the eastern US, but that was it.

Here was a test entry for a lighthouse:

and here's the map list

It's a fulltime job keeping them updated! Kraig's done fantastic
