Skeletal construction, yes, but not what one would think. Rather, it is the skeletal framework erected during the construction of a well known lighthouse on the Great Lakes.

Hmmm. Good guess. :)

This is not the usual view of Split Rock but it is at the same angle as the construction image.

Hi Dave,

I have seen heaps o pics of Split Rock over the years. One of the things I like about US lighthouses is that no two are the same. The popular ones are easily recognizable for the people who have much to do with lighthouses. Canadian lights on the other hand, are similar and even some of the Scottish Stevenson lights have a similar appearance.
Now I guess you'l just go and prove me wrong.

The design of the Stevenson lights evolved from the first Stevenson lighthouse to the designs of later Stevenson lighthouses thus they look very similar and influenced later lighthouse designs used by others. One example is Minots Ledge Light the design for which was created after consulting drawings and documentation regarding Eddystone, Bell Rock and Skeryvore and consultations with the Stevenson.

I second that. Most of the Canadian lights look the "same", as much as I like the John Brown towers. There's very few unique ones. Gibraltar Point is one of them.
