Trying to research the history of my great grandfather, James Oliver Casey, USLHS, i have found among others than Cape Hatteras, he was stationed at Bloody Point Bar, MD, Pamlico Point,NC, and Royal Shoals,NC. Does anyone , in this vast network, have any info of keepers of these lighthouses? I am trying to establish the dates that he was stationed at these lighthouses. any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance of any help any one of this wonderful group of lighthose lovers can provide!

You might want to try:
"U.S. Lighthouse Board Establishment & Service--A Historical
Bibliography"
http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/ATON_USLHS_Bib.html
(this page doesn't have any direct links but does show various publications and briefs that could get you started in your search.)

You can also search out this site, as well:
"Federal Lighthouse Records Rescources"
http://www.battleshipnc.com/6mhc/scluniesbib.htm
(Unfortunitely not all of their data has been posted online, however, it could provide you with a reference point)

Hope this helps!

to Brent, Zachary ,Dawn and Paul i give me most heart warmed thanks!! As an update, the pic in the LIGHTHOUSE Digest is from my family, my brother to be exact. Regarding the Cape Hatteras dates, we agree but think there is another date that hasnt been proven yet but we are working on it. dawn bein a Jeanette, that you are , i might wind up calling you cousin before it is over!! I, like you have an awful lot of family on the outer banks, especially in Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras, Ocracoke and Cedar Island. Again i thank all, this proves as i had said earlier , this is a wondeful group!!!

Hey obxlhs,
Would love to hear from you. My Grandmother was the Jennette. That was her maiden name. She went on to marry a Dickerson then a Scarborough.
She and my father were both from Buxton but later years they ended up in Kinnakeet. Anyways, will pvt you my phone number.
Take Care,
Dawn

If you do not already have this book in your library, Hatteras Keepers-Oral and Family Histories edited by Cheryl Shelton-Rogers, it is a must. Check out page 24. Several pages written about Keeper Casey. When I was researching the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse at the Outer Banks History Center, I found Casey had served at this lighthouse too. The History Center has the mircofische film of the Keepers and assts. pay info from 1848-1912 from all 11 LH districts. You should be able to find the other info you are looking for about Keepers time of service and where served. The Town of Manteo ordered the film from the NARCs and donated it to the History Center.

While in your seaching if you come across any piece of RM light history and more about your GGrandfather's history with this light please share.

Thanks! Melody

As i have said before, THIS IS ONE GREAT GROUP!! I cannot beleive the respone and help i have got!! i do have that book and serval more, i have the info on his time at Hatteras in the 20s and early 30s, but i am looking for info prior to Hatteras and also looking for info to back up my families opinion that he was at Hatteras in 1894 when my grandmother was born at the Keepers Quarters at Hatteras. Everyone is giving me so much info and help! I cant say thanks enough!I guess i need to find me a winter motel and take off a few days and go to Manteo and do some research. Thanks to all who have responded! Murray

I would be happy to research this for you. It would be easier for me to access it then it would be for you to have to plan a visit and stay at a motel. Unless of course you would love to hit the Manteo highlights in the winter!

In your previous post you have listed three lighthouses. Is there anymore information that you have that may be of use? I love a mystery!

Melody, i appreciate the offer, and of course, if you have time i would appreciate any and all help. I always enjoy Manteo, especially in the off season, as i cant handle hugh crowds. He was at Southwest Royal Shoals, Pamlico Point, Bloody Point Bar. We know some knowledge of Pamlico and Hatteras. I never heard that he was at Roanoke Marsh.
