Here's a nice restoration project looking for support. They have requested permission to enter the Lighthouse Weekend activities in August and even have a group of amateur radio operators lined up for our annual lighthouse event, the ILLW.

Kevin ...

Your post sounded familiar ... it lends an appreciation to how difficult it is organize and complete such projects ...

From April 23, 2006 ...

The committee hopes the project will be complete in 2007 ...

According to their web site and also the lady I have been in contact with, they have yet to start on the construction of the light. We have given permission for them to participate in our event albeit without a lighthouse so hopefully it will generate some funds for them.

Another year later ... from an article in The Journal Register

Oak Orchard Lighthouse Museum staff spoke about the history of the light house and their two goals. Dick Anderson said that one goal is being able to recreate the lighthouse that once was located in Point Breeze, and another is to establish a museum that can teach and show people what it use to be like to live in Orleans County.

The organization will sponsor its first golf tournament June 20, with participation money to benefit the building fund. Anderson said that so far, approximately $98,000 has been raised towards the lighthouse, and $170,000 is needed

The April issue of Lighthouse Digest magazine spoke about the pending (at the time) grant and details, with illustrations, on what their grand plans are. Since then, they have been awarded the grant. I'm awaiting details concerning the money allocation, construction timetable, etc. to write a (hopefully near future) update for Lighthouse Digest. The Oak Oarchard folks still have upcoming meetings pending for the specifics.

See their website, http://www.oakorchardlighthouse.org, for more on their benefit golf tournament.

Continuing efforts ... From The Journal-Register

All blueprints are complete to rebuild an accurate replica
of the lighthouse that once stood on one of the long piers
off Point Breeze until blown down by storms in 1916.
