I am Working on a series of short stories centered in New England and one of the characters is a lighthouse keeper. I am trying to do some reserach on the life of a keeper. Can anyone point me to any links that deal with 19th centry (1855-1900) lighthouse keeping? Specificly How often did the keeper need to refill the whale oil of the lamp and How often to "rewind" the turning mechanism? Thanks for any help and sorry if this is already in the forum, my searches didn't turn anything up. I have lighthouse photos at my flickr sight if anyone want to see.
