:D It makes me very glad that this youngster is taking on a project to get this lagoon's light re-lit after years of neglect -- Perhaps others in his Troop will also follow him in making any repairs and ongoing upkeep for this light as part of their Eagle Projects..........

As a longtime Adult Scout Leader (21 Years), I can tell you that the "Trail to Eagle" is a long and difficult process --- The Scout must earn a minimum of 21 Merit Badges, assume leadership roles in his Patrol and Troop, and meet all the requirments for each of the ranks - Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life - Before he can become a canadate for the Eagle rank -- He must also serve a set time in each rank, and do service projects along the way..........

To qualify for his Eagle Rank, a Scout must plan his entire project in advance, secure any funding and materials needed, recruit helpers to assist in the project, and keep a "Workbook" - (a journal of the entire project from start to finish -- and must explain any deveations from orginal project plan) - He must supervise his helper crew through all phases of the project from start to finish..........

The entire project must be approved in advance by the boy's Troop Leader, the Unit Committee Chairman, the Scouting District, and the entity or organization who will benefit from the project -- This can be a Scout Camp, a Church, a School, or a governmental entity (Local, State, or Federal) -- The whole Project must be OK'ed before any work can be done.........

Nationally, less than %2 of all Scouts earn the Eagle Rank -- So you can see how just to get to the point this young man has takes a lot of work and dedication....... :yay: 8)
