Interior Secretary Salizar signed the paperwork that will let the Northwest Schooner Society take custody of BILS. I turned in the application 3.5 years ago, in what was supposed to be a 6 month process-- but I'll bet you folks all know how that goes. Anyhow, here's a little bit about the Schooner Society and why we got something without two masts:

NWSS is a 501(c)3 corporation, registered in Washington State and this is our mission:

“Northwest Schooner Society works to preserve the vessels, facilities and skills of our maritime heritage. We seek to facilitate training opportunities for sailors, boatwrights and educators who share our view that many of our maritime traditions offer useful insights and strategies for living in today's world. As on a ship, by working together we move
forward, by looking out for one another we promote our own safety and by understanding the environment we can harness its power for the betterment of all.”

Once we get a pre-title license from the USCG, we'll get to work on the station-- probably before summer's end.
