This light is in desperate need of repairs. Let's hope that is the priority of the new owners!!!!

Well, part of the process of applying for "ownership " from the U.S. Interior Dept. is showing a long term plan of how you plan to take care of it.

Interesting that it's current condition is much like Bodie Island LH in NC, except that the First Order Fresnel lens at BILH is still operational and an active aid to navigation (ATON).

Thanks for posting the article Barry, and glad to see you back "on".

Considering the financial condition that California is in, it will be interesting to see how long it will take for them to come up with
the $5 million (since it is part of the California Parks System). I
wish them well!

Thought this piece captured a mood, a feeling ...

http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413 ... 07,00.html

What I liked about visiting is how Pigeon Point grows on you as you approach. I came from the South. Every couple of quarter miles after first sighting there seemed to be a place to park and view it ... just a little larger ... just a little different perspective of PP against the Pacific.

Then on the grounds, back to the light looking seaward, trying very hard to see the whales and porpoises ... the views out are majestic, are sweeping ... the views coastal north and south so unlike the mid-Atlantic sands where I reside ... the views below to the rocks and crags so daunting.

And let's not dismiss Gary's picket fence.

How special it must be each year they light the light ...
