Funding ... is one of five Central Coast preservation and restoration efforts set to share more than $3 million Thursday. Other projects that could receive sizeable grants include restoration of the Point San Luis Lighthouse and conservation of an isolated beach near Point Sal in northern Santa Barbara County
The Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers are also in line to get a substantial grant.

The group could get $500,000 to help renovate the light station. The Coastal Conservancy grant would be matching funds for a $650,000 grant from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment.

“These are a series of grants that look to fully restore the light station in three years,” said Margo Camilleri, executive director of the keepers.

The group also could get $50,000 to restore a stairway that will allow kayakers and others to access the lighthouse property from a nearby sandy beach, said Tim Duff, project manager with the conservancy.

“We want to improve the safety of the access and reduce erosion,” he said.
The Coastal Conservancy is a state agency that promotes conservation of the state’s 1,100-mile coastline and enhanced public access to it. Most of the grants it disburses are financed by various voter-approved ballot measures.
