Lighthouses now are more historical points of interest than navigation aid.

“I wouldn’t say they were obsolete but they are a secondary aid to navigation. The primary aid is GPS.”



I agreed with the comments on the hard life of the keepers, however I don't agree with the above quote. Many lighthouses are still shinning a light as a navigational aid plus radio beacons pulse out from the towers. Perhaps that is my 'romantic' notion about the lights. Long my they shine out.
