I'm with you Frans. Nice perspective, but not that great of a photo. I guess they wanted something different.

Well here's something different- people criticizing a winning photo in the Lighthouse Digest photo contest. :D

I love the yearly ritual Dennis  . Glad the jury did not disappoint me this year.

You can add it to that short list of things you can count on happening- death and taxes. :D

A shot out the window wins the "Most Unique Angle" category? Really?

The yearly criticizing of the Lighthouse Digest photo contest is richly deserved.

Despite the yearly LHD contest bashing, some on the winners were quite good. The one of Newport, RI was great (in fact, so what the other "Winter" shot). I don't know why an un-sharp photo lacking contrast and vibrance deserves to be on the cover, but there must be some aspect of it they like. Maybe he made a big donation to LHD recently :D

Then again, maybe I'm a bit biased because my photos didn't get anything

From The Holland Sentinel ... http://www.hollandsentinel.com/entertai ... al-contest

The judging process goes through several stages, with various people,
none of whom are professional photographers, voting on the images
until they get down to the final photographs in each category

Here's an article on the photo contest judging, while I disagree with most of the topics, it's interesting to say the least.

Interesting read. I can't say that I agree with all of them either.

I particularity like the one where he says "don't have the lighthouse as the main topic". I seem to recall somewhere in the LHD rules that the lighthouse should "be the centerpiece, not some spec in the background" . Oh well. #-o

I send photos in every year, and sometimes they're better than the photos they chose. Either that, or they don't look much different. :?
