First Light 2005

A forum to post any lighthouse pictures you'd like others to see. Feel free to talk about lighthouse photography. Lighthouse-related photos (such as LSS and lenses) are also welcome.

While in Maine in June, the town of Saco held their Main Street Art Festival (or some sort thing). One of the photographers there caught my interest. He had a series of sunrise photos of Portland Head, all taken on New Years morning in various years.

So here's what I propose, if others are willing, capable (meaning sober), and the weather cooperative: let's see how many of us can get out to a lighthouse and photograph it at sunrise on New Year's Day (and of course, post said photographs here).

I'm going to try at Concord Point. I am hoping to be able to drive again my then...the cast is supposed to finally come off for good next Wednesday (after 104 days..today is day 98...not that I am counting). :D

What do you all think?

If I lived closer to a lighthouse, I would certainly be game Larry. Hope you get some company on your quest for sunrise photos on the New Year. :P

Hell, I live on the sunset side of Michigan :!: Sunrise shots are, at best, a bear to get anything decent and then only at certain times of the year when the sun is hitting at a particiular angle.

That said, weather cooperative, I'll still give it a try!

if I don't work retail, I'll try it! New Years Day, believe it or not, is a farily good retail day, especially in the mid afternoon.

I rose at 5:20, left the house at 6:20 and arrived at Concord Point at 6:45. Sun rose at 7:25. I stayed until 8:30 and fired off 160 pictures. Wait 'til you see some of the shots I took. No time to post them right now, but I REALLY like them.

Anyone else head out?

I was up playing cards with my family till about 5:00am, so even if I was within 100 miles of a sunrise lighthouse, there was no way!!! I can't wait to see your shots, Larry.

I got up this morning, took a look at the grey permacloud here over SW Michigan and decided I'd rather crawl back into bed than drive the 35 miles to South Haven or the 50 to St Joe.... Sorry guys!
