Another UnContest -- Sunrises/Sunsets/Moonsets/Moonrises

A forum to post any lighthouse pictures you'd like others to see. Feel free to talk about lighthouse photography. Lighthouse-related photos (such as LSS and lenses) are also welcome.

Seagull flying over the catwalk at Grand Haven. Probably can't see him, but there's also a surfer in the water near the edge of the catwalk.

That's all for now! I'm in the process of scanning the original slides of these last few on my Nikon Coolspan so I can have some larger files and can print some larger prints of them all.

I have a few more photos that Gary has generously hosted for me, but none for this category, Terry. Thanks for asking!!! I'll have to try to catch the right spots on the Alphabetic UNcontest. :)

This is a sundog, shot off the deck of the SS Badger car ferry last August while waiting to get underway from Ludington, MI a little after sunrise. If you look carefully, just to the left of the tree near the left side of the image, you can see the Ludington pier light.

Here's that same sundog shot from closer to the front of the ship as we approached the main channel and the Ludington light. Visible on the right side of the frame is the Ludington USCG station.

No matter what time of day, Bodie Light always gives me the most beautiful shots! (I'm hoping this works!)

Here's something a little different. This is the stern of the self-unloader Algosteel out in the middle of Lake Michigan headed south, probably toward Gary, Indiana with a waxing Gibbous moon overhead. This image was shot off the top deck of the Lake Express ferry last June headed back east to Muskegon from Milwaukee.

A great shot, it really has a solitary look to it. I bet this is one that the sailors would really take to heart.

Thanks, Hersh. You're right, that image has a very solitary feel to it. I'm also suprised at how sharp it was considering we were flying along about 40+ mph on the Lake Express ferry when that was shot! I think I was shooting about 1/2000th of a sec or something like that. I'm working up a couple of other images of the Algosteel. Unfortunately, there was no way to get the moon overhead until we were astern of her. :( This is shot from a somewhat more oblique angle. I think I've got one other good one that was shot broadside of her. I'll get that one posted after a bit...

As promised, here is a broadside view of the Algosteel. She's 730 feet LOA so this was taken with a wide angle from quite a distance away.
