Bald Head Island

A forum to post any lighthouse pictures you'd like others to see. Feel free to talk about lighthouse photography. Lighthouse-related photos (such as LSS and lenses) are also welcome.

With Monday being National Lighthouse Day, Christina and I headed down to the Oak Island/Southport area on Sunday so that we could actually do some lighthousing on National Lighthouse Day. While we did visit Oak Island lighthouse and the LSS on Sunday, we saved Bald Head Island for Monday. We have a number of images that we are still going through, but here are two that I like so far.

Isn't Bald Head Island the greatest place on earth?

Did you ride out to Captain Charlie's (the Cape Fear ruins & keepers houses) or the Life Saving Station Boat House? I didn't know about the boat house until we returned home and I looked more closely at the map of the island.

Yes Larry, we did. It was our first time doing that and we enjoyed it. I have a few photos, but they will probably have to wait for the weeked to be posted.

As for the boat house, I am not sure if the one on the map (back center of the Island) is the one used by the LSS. We drove by it, on golf cart, and it didn't look like something from the LSS. I am going to be checking on that though.

Stephen, I've ramsacked my picture files looking for my photos of the boat house, and can't find them.

Ann Mills, ex. director at Old Baldy had marked on my map where it was, so I knew I was at the right place. If you post yours, I'll know if it's the same building.

Wouldn't it be neat to vacation for a week at Captain Charlie's?

Would you believe that I didn't take a picture of it? 8O

I emailed Ann before we went and she didn't respond and still hasn't. Maybe we will get it when we go next time.

Yes, it would be nice to vacation there!
