A big ship in the morning

Last month when I stayed in Marquette I got up at the crack of dawn one morning to try for a sunrise at the Marquette harbor lighthouse. The cloud cover was way too thick, and I was pretty disappointed I used the long lens to look over to the ore docks a few miles away but couldn't see a ship on the right side, but I had nothing better to do, so I decided to drive over and see if there was one on the left side.

When I got there I was thrilled to see the Charles M. Beeghly tied up and taking on a load of ore. I love the old so-called "triple A" ships, they have much more personality than the newer boats in my opinion.

So I shot her for about an hour and got some pretty decent shots despite the dull, gray skies.

This was the first shot of the day, still pretty dark out...

A close up of the foreward accomodations and pilot house...

And a longer exposure shot to soften the water and bring out the lights...

Great shots Mike. Gee those things are long. It must take an hour to walk from one end to the other.
