I couldn't resist the temptation to throw this structure into the ring. Believe it or not it was an entry in the ILLW in August and after much emailing I eventually had to allow it as an entry. It is listed as an navigation aid and it is a light in a structure. My offsider asked wher is the cut out moon in the door.
I really don't expect anyone to guess the name, but you never know. It's in Europe and the water in the background is not an ocean.
Well, I have a book of Finnish lights and just went through it. It wasn't in the book I have but I don't know how all inclusive the book is and my reading ability in Finnish is nil.... Then again you said it was European... does that include Scandanavia, Kevin?
Hey Frans, it's on your side of the Atlantic. Any ideas?
Good guess Gary. You are in the right vicinity. The big hint was in my first post and the water in the pic is a gulf, it's an entry in the Lighthouse weekend.
You are quite correct Frans. It's at 62°32'N 21°04'E and appears in the Volume C of the Admiralty list. Number 4314.
For it to qualify as an entry in our event I had to get details and photos from the entrant. He claims that the area is and old fisherman's haunt of the 1800's and that the light dates back to that time.
Didn't make it into the book I have on Finnish lighthouses... then again, I guess I'm not surprised when you consider it would probably be a pretty minor light.
The guy who entered the lighthouse in our event provided me with these pics which show that it is listed in the official list of Finnish Lighthouses as well as the Admiralty list. I needed this information to make sure the structure qualified as an entry.
