Hi All,

In recently arrived back from a week long vacation to St. Lucia, including visits to both of the lighthouses on the island (Vigie and Cap Moule a Chique). Both are in a rather sad condition, the lantern room glass on both are shattered, and one (Cap Moule a Chique) is coated with rust.

I will lucky enough to meet the harbour master whose office is at the Vigie lighthouse, and I had a lengthy conversation with him about the lighthouse. Afterwards, he offered to open up the tower for me. The result was a spectacular view from the top, as well as the unique opportunity to see inside a lighthouse that is not usually open to the public. :D

Anyway, photos can be found here: http://alanbotphotography.com/browse.ph ... egory&in=7

If you want to see photos of my entire trip, see here: http://alanbotphotography.com/browse.ph ... tion&in=15

All the best, and thanks for looking.

Always great to get in to a lighthouse not open to the public. Makes you feel special.

Alan, thank you for bringing warmth and sunshine to a cool rainy day on the coast of Maine. I looked at all the photo's you took of St. Lucia. It is too bad the lighthouses are in such bad shape.

Thanks for the replies Eric and Carole. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the photos.

Carole: Yes, it is too bad that they are both in such bad shape. I was talking to the harbormaster/keeper at the Vigie Lighthouse (the night shots), and he offered some insight into them. It was quite interesting listening to him. He told me that the Cap Moule lighthouse (the one up on the cliff) was the second highest in the world, and it is a shame that it is not in better condition. However, he did tell me that the government is talking about appropriating funds to fix both of the lighthouse up.
