Finally got to watch this movie this weekend.
WOW!

First off, this is NOT a chick flick. I would be really surprised if the guys don't like this one.

Secondly, being Hollywood, I'm sure liberties were taken in the portrayal of USCG procedures, but all in all this movie is a terrific tribute to the Coast Guard.

And even though I have never liked Ashton Kutcher and have always adored Kevin Costner, I now have a greater respect for Kutcher's acting abilities. (My feelings for Costner haven't changed.)

Watch this movie...you won't be sorry. And when you do, watch the film behind the credits in the end. There are a bunch of photos of the old Life Saving Service. You'll also see the CG rescue copter circling past a lighthouse up on a clift.

I can take or leave Kevin Costner. He is hit or miss with me. Ashton starred in the worst movie I ever seen,(My Bosses Daughter it was called) so I did not expect anything from him. Now that I seen this movie, I can say that his acting is very much improved. Maybe being married to Demi helped him out. It is worth seeing.

Posted by an active Coastie on another board about this movie...
Actually, the USCG has a Motion Picture Division that was VERY involved in the production - just to make sure things were as close to accurate as possible...

Also, filming location was the Oregon coast and at an actual CG station there. Many of the "extras" were real Coasties. The wave tank was strictly "Hollywood".

Any quesses on what lighthouse is seen at the end of the credits? I think it might be Yaquina Head.
