Hello to all!

On the heels of an announcement I made yesterday via e-mail to many relatives, close friends and several others, I'm now prepared to make the announcement here to all of my fellow lighthouse fanatics. Here goes...

A few weeks ago, I signed a contract with Schiffer Publishing to do a lighthouse book -- one that basically will be a photographic journey down the East Coast, from West Quoddy Head down to Key West. Tentatively, this book is to be titled "Beacons of the East" and will be in hardcover. This book will not be an historical diatribe, but rather a simple photo journal, so to speak. The book is being scheduled for a 2009 release, possibly late spring, early summer.

Needless to say, I am quite excited about this fortunate turn of events and I've already begun work on the book. And while I doubt very highly I will be able to include every lighthouse on the East Coast, I'm going to try as hard as I can to get as many of the ones I don't yet have into my photo arsenal. I've already started scheduling short and fairly long trips for the coming months and next year, and without question it will make me quite busy. But with such an opportunity presented to me, I couldn't pass it up.

Anyway ... I'll keep everybody posted as to my progress, and I may be asking some of you for a suggestion now and then. Of course, this announcement has been made on my website, and during the next year as I work diligently toward my Aug. 1, 2008 deadline I will be posting blog entries and offering people a few chances to win copies of the book.

Obviously, anybody who can spread the word, please do. The publishing company already has asked me to develop a mailing list for those interested in possibly getting the book when it comes out (it's all part of that marketing plan every publisher makes its authors go through), so if you're interested send me a message and let me know.

Catch everybody later! :D

Congratulations!!! ^:)^ ^:)^ I also look forward to getting my copy. I now know what to get Christopher for his birthday after it is printed!

The best part of the book is now you have the greatest excuse on earth to see the lights that you have not seen, and to see the ones you have seen again.

Is this something that will be ALL the lighthouses or are you highlighting certain ones? Doing ALL is quite a task, but you should have plenty of time to get to them, there's some nice country in downeast Maine!
