I was there a few weeks ago and I asked one of the docents why it's called Old Mackinac Point when there is no New Mackinac Point. I was advised that the area the light was built on was called "OMP" because it was the area where the old fort Mackinac stood. When the forts were abandoned they were destroyed, so the townspeople simply referred to the piece of land as where the old fort stood. So it's not the Old Mackinac Point lighthouse, it's the lighthouse on Old Mackinac Point.

I'm pretty sleep deprived, but I think that makes sense....

I think we should consult with our ultimate authority, Terry, on this "Point".......

Is Hersh correct, should we be refering to the light just as "Mackinac Point".... :?:

Inquiring minds want to know.... :?
