Earlier this week it was reported that the remains of the Franks Island Lighthouse were located. This photograph was circulated as evidence.

But, the tower in that photo isn't Franks Island. It's the old SW Pass tower:

As you can see, the Franks Island tower looks very different from the one in that photograph: http://www.lhdigest.com/database/dataph ... ?value=249

A couple of sad looking towers indeed.... Hate to see them end up like this.

It's sad, but unfortunately, LA has several lights in that same condition:
Pass Manchac
Pass A L'Outre
Southwest Pass (1839+1871 Towers)
Ship Shoal
West Rigolets
Unfortunately, SW Pass & Pass A L'Outre are in Wildlife Refuges so they probably won't be restored :( but there are plans underway for the restoration of Pass Manchac and Berwick wants to move Ship Shoal to it's Lighthouse Park (where SW Reef is) and restore it. As for West Rigolets, the private owner has expressed interest in restoring it but so far nothing has been done.

Franks Island was destroyed 3 years ago, which'll be next?
