I think the Tybee Island lighthouse is one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the south.
But every time I search old pictures of it, I noticed it had different daymarks :?: Does anyone know why?

Before it was restored it had the upper half black & lower half white, After it was restored it was changed to it's original daymark (the one you see now).
Why the USCG changed it in the first place, I don't know.

I never realized Tybee had so many daymarks. It looks like it ties with Absecon with seven (although I guess Tybee wins with six different, to Absecon's five)....

I knew that it had a couple of different daymarks, but I didn't know it had that many either. Isn't it great that their site shows photos of each different day mark?

This is a beautiful lightstation, and one of the few today with a working 1st order Fresnel. The Tybee Island Historical Society has done a terrific job with renovations under the leadership of Cullen Chambers, and I'm anxious to get back down there and see the completed renovations on the dwellings.

The page on their site about the different daymarks is intersting...thanks for pointing that out, Zackary.

Both are great sites to visit. And I love that both websites show all of the different daymarks. Hope to revisit both of these places before the end of the year.

Judy,
I'm trying to hit the Charleston and Savannah area over Labor Day weekend. I'm anxious to see the renovations and what Morris Island is looking like these days.

Beth,

If you've never been, as long as you are "in the neighborhood," make sure you see Hunting Island.

It us worth the detour.

Stephen, I hope I didn't confuse you. The renovations at Tybee Judy referred to, is what I was referring to... :D

Not sure about Morris...I just wanted to see how it looked compared to the last time I went, which was either 2001 or 2002.

Barry, I have been to Hunting....Beautiful park!! I stopped there on my way to Georgia to see my sister this year back in February, on the opening day from repairs. However, I did not climb for I was sick, and making the climb would have made me worse. So, I gotta go back! Hopefully, to camp out there sometime as well....with all of nature's creatures running or lying around.... :P
