IN A E-MAIL FROM BOB TRAPANI:

Virginia's Pilot Online contains an story highlighting the move of the Roanoke River Lighthouse to a new location -- and a neat photo showing the lighthouse being loaded onto the deck of a barge.

Great news! Beth took me over to see this one back in '05 and it was in sad shape. It's good to see it being saved!

What happened with the lens? I have a photo of it precariously perched in the tower. 8O

according to the article:

the approximately 300-pound lens was removed before Wednesday, but it will be returned to the beacon when the structure is renovated in coming years.

I just wished that we made the trip over to see it on our way home from Currituck on Sunday. We usually make that side trip on the way home, but we left so late on Sunday due to all the horses on the beach.

Oh well, now I guess we will have to make a few trips out to document the progress.

Glad to see something is being done after all this time!

I will definately be visiting Edenton next time I am out that way. It is nice to see a town saving a light before it is too late.

I know what I'll be doing this weekend

the approximately 300-pound lens was removed before Wednesday, but it will be returned to the beacon when the structure is renovated in coming years.

Let's hope that they remember this in a few years, when they are ready to put the lens back.
