Birds Close Race Point Lighthouse Jeopardizing Restoration and ALF Infrastructure :(

This past June the Cape Cod National Seashore closed off the access route to Massachusetts’s Race Point Lighthouse, which in turn caused the cancellation of overnight stays at the lighthouse and a major loss of income to the organization; income that was scheduled for other restoration projects and for support of the American Lighthouse Foundation’s infrastructure, such as rent, utilities, insurance, etc. The access route was closed because of nesting Piping Plovers, which are on now on the endangered species list.

Although the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation offered several solutions to work around and still protect the endangered birds, government officials rejected the ideas.

Since the income from the overnight stays at Race Point has now been lost for over half of the season, the American Lighthouse Foundation is urgently appealing for donations to complete other lighthouse preservation projects that were already started and to support the vital infrastructure that holds together the entire organization.

You can help by making an urgently needed on-line donation in any amount at www.LighthouseFoundation.org or by mail to the American Lighthouse Foundation, P.O. Box 889, Wells, ME 04090.

The first 50 donations of $300.00 or more will receive a free Harbour Lights replica of Maine’s Little River Lighthouse, which is being restored by our group.

Another way you can help is through the purchase of ALF gift items. We have a great selection of tee shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, books and other items. This can be done by going to the Gift Store section of the web site at www.LighthouseFoundation.org.

Please Help, no donation is too small or too large!

My best, :D
