The purpose of this article was to recognize Black History Month. The author failed to do this in six very significant ways. These were; the six Pea Island surfmen, Theodore Meekins, Benjamin Bowser, Dorman Pugh, Lewis Wescott, Stanley Wise, and William Irving. The author failed to recognize in his article that in addition to Keeper Etheridge, his six surfman were also African-American.
