This article helped answer a question I had earlier this month. I was reading of "Thomas Jefferson's travels" (his travels in Europe) and he mention "rape harvesting" and at first I thought it was some kind of bad management of farm lands. Then later he wrote they used the rapeseed for oil, but did not go into detail. So now I know one use could be oil to light a lighthouse lamp.
