It appears the first ship did not try to save the crew due to the color of their skin.

What a story -- And what dedicitation by Keeper Clampitt and his Surfman Crew to keep at their task to a successful conclusion....And what a take on both the brighter and darker sides of American history...

At sea, all men should be brothers, there should be no "Color".....

An excellent story, Barry -- This one did indeed "Grab Me"......
