This is one very cool lighthouse. Why save them when you can build new ones. Yes!

Why not build new ones - replica's it would save a lot of time and money. They would be much easier to maintain. You would not have to deal with historic commissions and committees. Look at how quick a look most people take a look at lighthouses on lighthouse tours. Build exact replica who is going to know the difference from a boat on the water.

Carole ... because if you build new ones, there are no guarantees that the ghosts and spirits that inhabit the old ones will find moving to an antispetic replica to their liking ... and then they will be in limbo ... as will we all ... for near forever ...

Barry good point,

We will just leave the old lighthouses standing and build the new ones next to the old ones. In this way everyone is happy.

Another question since you brought this up Barry.

What about places like the World Trade Center and Oklahoma?

What happened to remains of these buildings?

Giving Carole's response a little more thought ... and just throwing this out there ...

... what might the response have been in 1806 when "New" Point Comfort was established ... or in 1881 when "New" Cape Henry came to be? Who were (pardon me, Brent) the "lighthouse nuts" back then who might have decried newer lights being built instead of refurbishing the older ones?

... of course there is the flip side, the hideously ugly, yet oddly compelling vision of Sullivans Island Light in 1962 taking the place of the hauntingly spectacular Morris Island tower from 1838 ...

I dont know if this is the logical ... or in my case illogical ... extension of Carole's thought ... but I know how quick I was to dismiss her thought (Becasue I like ghosts and history and lore) and upon reflection, if done right, maybe with the passage of time, some of the aura and allure does get passed on ...

I dunno ... what do you all think?
