Trip the Light Fantastic
by Lori Hoffman

We’ve all heard of ballroom dancing, but the Absecon Lighthouse has a new twist in store — lighthouse dancing. The historic structure in Atlantic City presents “Dancing with the Stairs” this Saturday (Jan. 19). This high-stepping dance party will feature professional dance demonstrations and dance instruction by the Follow Me Ballroom Studio of Ocean City, and music to swing by provided by DJ Jack Fahey. Participants are encouraged to come dressed as a dancer from your favorite era. Whether it’s the elegance of Fred and Ginger, or the energetic style of the Dirty Dancing years, express yourself on the dance floor. A $25 donation to the lighthouse includes admission, light refreshments and a climb up the 228 lighthouse stairs to see the Atlantic City skyline ablaze. When asked what was the inspiration for the event, Absecon Lighthouse’s executive director, Jean Muchanic, noted that after celebrating the lighthouse’s first 150 years in 2007, “We wanted to launch the next 150 years by showcasing the fun side of being at the lighthouse and participating in its history. We have these wonderful wooden floors and with the popularity of Dancing with the Stars on TV, we thought this was a great idea.”

Dancing with the Stairs, Sat. Jan. 19, 7–9pm, Absecon Lighthouse, 31 S. Rhode Island Ave. Doors open at 6:30pm. Call 449-1360
