Work continues on the two fresnel lens of Jones Point Lighthouse. The Chesapeake Chapter of the United States Lighthouse Society is doing the restoration work. They think the lens will be done in September. When they are I will post pictures on the website www.jonespoint.garoux.net/

When do you think they'll start work inside the lighthouse?

After the total Woodrow Wilson Bridge project is done, which should be this year.

The lens will be displayed in a local museum or other public building to start with and should bring attention to the lighthouse. Currenlty people walk by and think it is just a house (just like some people see the Florida Reef Lights and think they are oil wells, even though Florida has no offshore drilling).

I've wondered how you get inside of it, all the doors and windows appear to be solid plywood, is there one door they left uncovered?

Regardless, I think it will be great once finished, it's such an unassuming yet very unique lighthouse

The plywood over the doors and windows are screwed shut. They had problems in the past with vandals. The Park Rangers of course can unsecrew them when they need to get inside. The inside is pretty gutted.
The Jones Point Park will be getting some improvements after the bridge project is finished and that should help some. If it is restored they talked about someone living inside the lighthouse, that of course would help the most.
