Another victim of the NJ budget crunch...

Personally, give the exorbitant property taxes that we who live in the "Garden State" pay, which are the highest in the nation, you'd think we'd get a little more for our money than we do. While I'm all for education, some of what I see when I occasionally watch the local interest public TV channel of school board meetings, etc. borders on the absurd. Students complaining because they're being cut from four to JUST three marine science courses at Watchung Hills Regional HS... gimme a break, that's a high school, NOT a college!!!!

Gary,

Sorry this is not part of the NJ budget problem- it's a federal preserve and the money comes from the US government. The problem is that the lighthouse is in a preserve that does not have it as it's main interest. If your budget gets cut you lop off what has the elast effect on your main mission.

The worst part is the beauracucy soup that makes it difficult for another group to pick up the slack- liability, etc issues rear thier heads.

It took major talks to just get the bottom of the tower open for the NJLHS Challenge. It was closed completely 2 years ago for the Challenge.
