So ... I must ask ... Who here is traveling down to Barnegat Light for the relighting on New Year's Day? I know I'll be there, with Melissa, since this was the first lighthouse we ever visited together.

I have a feeling I will be at Barnegat Lighthouse a lot during the coming year. Having an active beacon just a short drive over to the island is going to be awesome, and opens things up for a lot more photo opportunities than the past 60-plus years. Needless to say, I'm thrilled.

Always good to see an old tower brought back to life. But I got to ask am I the only one dissapointed to see a Vega lamp up there?

I'm not disappointed. Doesn't really matter which lamp they use to relight the lighthouse. It's been extinguished for 82 years. What kind of lamp would you have preferred, Eric?

I guess it's just that I'm a bit of a purist. I always prefer to see a Fresnel lens in the towers. I was personally involved with the restoration and relighting of Anclote Keys light in Florida. While I was really happy when we first had the light restored and turned on with a Vega, I wasn't fully satisfied to our replica 4th order lens was installed and running. Just the Fresnel nut in me I guess.

It would really be nice if the original fresnel was used.
One like...oh say...this one!
