At the Twin Lights, the beacon will remind us of the ongoing war between the British and Americans over Sandy Hook and control of the entrance to New York Harbor. It will remind us of the war against British shipping by the Jersey Shore privateers (government-sponsored pirates), and the Battle of Monmouth, when Washington interrupted the British march from Philadelphia to the Atlantic Highlands
