Eight lulus in a doozy, and sixteen doozies in a humdinger.

No one knows how many humdingers
there are in a lollapalooza."

From Three Cheers in The Poughkeepsie Journal

To the Save Esopus Lighthouse Commission ...for its continued efforts in restoring the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse, the only remaining wooden lighthouse in existence on the Hudson River,

Located offshore near Port Ewen in Ulster County, the lighthouse was built in 1871. For the next 94 years, a resident keeper manned the lights, warning mariners of the nearby mudflats, known as the Esopus Meadows. In 1965, the lighthouse was converted to an automatic solar-powered system and the structure became the victim of severe weather deterioration, age and vandalism.

The lighthouse commission was founded in 1990 by Arline Fitzpatrick, niece of Manny Resendes, keeper from 1937 to 1944, and the organization purchased the property from the Coast Guard in 2003. Volunteers have worked to restore the keeper's house, which includes a kitchen, sitting room and equipment room on its first floor and three bedrooms upstairs. New electric wiring and solar panels have been installed. And a plan to set up a museum in the house to show how it looked in the 1920s and 1930s also is on the agenda. The group plans to open it next year for public tours and will transport visitors on a newly acquired vessel.
