Kevin,

Yes, that portion of the river was frozen, yet, not 100 yards to the right (south) on the other side of the bridge, it was not ...

In the second set of pictures I posted, there was one shot from Twin Lights overlooking Sandy Hook Bay ... you can see how far out the frozen portion extended.

Al mentioned in his post watching the Coast Guard break up the ice ... same body of water ... as is the frozen shoreline in front of the Conover Beach Beacon.

It is sad to see the boats covered over in the winter. Very interesting photos. Barry, how far away do you live from where these shots where taken?

Carole,

Crossing the bridge behind the boat frozen near the dock ...

The Atalntic is about 100 yards away from the white building see to the left of the frozen boat ... sometimes more ... sometimes less ... depending on the storm season ...

I live approximatelty 17 miles due south and less than a quarter mile from the beach ...

Sandy Hook Light is about 6 miles due north once the bridge is crossed ...

From where those pictures were taken, you need to go under the bridge and turn up the hill, maybe a mile at most, to reach Twin Lights ...

Hope that helps ...

I think it is cool how they store the boats on those huge racks. There is one similar to that at Holden Beach, NC and it amazes me to see them up there.
