GATES: TWO VIEWS

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

Were we looking at the same thing?

I took the top picture looking almost directly towards 59th and 5th. The Plaza Hotel is the shorter building just right of center... the taller white building on the left is the GM building, former home to the flagship FAO Schwartz store.

This picture ... of the fellow painting the picture ... was taken maybe a few hundred yards to the west of my photo ... he may have been focused a little left of my camera angle ... but you can still make out the GATES ... the bridge ... the PLAZA ... and the GM Building ... the spires may have been the Sherry-Netherland Hotel ...

What were we looking at?

And while I am at it ...

... it still baffles me when, walking the park, I hear little children speak French ...

... all the Zambonis at the Wollman Rink bear the name of TRUMP, who one upped the city with the rink's restoration in mere months when the city let it lay in disrepair for years ...

... when I commuted into the city 25 years ago, the subway advertising that most caught my eye was "tell tale signs of a heart attack" ... yesterday, it was a picture of a solitary bookbag with the caption "Bag or Bomb?"
