How to Share Pictures

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

Hey guys. I'm new at all aspects of digital photography. Could someone please tell me how to post photos to share?

Thanks.

Beth

Well, the first thing is to make sure the photos are sized properly. There is no hard and fast rule, but in order to stay friendly with our dial-up internet users, you should keep your photos at 72dpi and generally not larger than 600 pixels in either direction.

If you need help in resizing your photos, many of us can walk you through it, it's relatively easy if you're using Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. Most any image processing program will do it for you.

As for posting the photos in message threads, you first must upload the photos to a place on the internet. For those of us with our own sites, it's easy because we can just use that server space. But even if you don't have your own site, many internet providers offer a few megabytes of storage space with their basic accounts, so you can check into that option.

Once the images are uploaded you just hit the img button in the message creation page, type the URL for your picture, hit the img button again, and it should work.

As for the photo album, I'll defer on that one, because I haven't used it yet.

I hope this helps, but if you are still confused, don't worry, I have that effect on people. We'll get you on track.

I'm trying to upload too. Don't know if I got it. (Probably not), so I'm trying with a shot from last weekends ventures. Just got back from Connecticut, got some sweet night shots of Stonnington and New London Ledge. Would like to try to share some of these, so let's see if this goes.

The picture should be of Ft. Wadsworth Light.[/img]

You're not doing anything wrong, Yahoo typically doesn't allow direct links. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. You can try uploading to the gallery here and link to that.
