Four Friends and the Lenses Last Night

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

To see almost a complete set of photos of this amazing collection of lenses, re-visit this thread at Lh.net:

Last night, our friend, CDR John Little, USCG secured our access to the USCG base in Yorktown, VA. Having gotten Shirin, Ross and I through the guard gate, John gave us a walking tour of this beautiful base.

Then we proceeded to the Aids to Navigation School which houses a mouth dropping display of lenses. The building was mostly dark, but John had made arrangements for us to get inside. The security guard did drop by for a quick chat.

Then, out came the cameras to document our visit. Shirin and Ross pose in front of a First Fresnel...

Of course, Ross gets into the act...

And one more. Ross's prism image...

Still up for more, we leave the building and climb into John's truck to drive out to the end of the pier. What a gorgeous site of the York River at the end of this long pier...sorry, we had put our cameras away by then. As we turn around to head back to land, the security guard drives up to check on us. He says we're not suppose to have a vehicle out there. John, who takes his vehicle out to the end of the pier regularly, grins and tells him he's just showing the place to his lighthouse friends. The security guard says, "Just had to check, Commander," and waves us on.

By then, it was time to head for the pub.

Next installment may come in a few days, once our New England friends return to home base.

Judy :D
At the request of several folks, I've edited this post 9/12/05 to include the location on LH.net of my previous photos of this huge collection of lenses. Hope you get an opportunity to visit in person!...Judy

Well, one home one still on the road. Ross dropped me off at home at 6pm this evening. Now just waiting to hear that he made it home safely from our 4 day trip. Ross still has a few more hours to get from CT to NH!

Awesome photos Judy! I'm going through all of my 435 photos from that past few days now!

I'm a witness...he WAS WIPED!, and I do mean tired, even before they left me. A lot of road miles covered in four days.

Glad you both got home safely, but I sure did enjoy spending time with you. My cats are now pouting because you're gone.
Looking forward with anticipation to seeing photos from your journey.

Wished we could have visited longer with you too Judy. Although, had we stayed any longer, Toby might have been coming home with me to CT!

Now I wonder how I just knew that last one would get posted? 8O

Actually, we learned some neat navigational stuff with all those "tinker toys", didn't we! Cool stuff!

It was a very interesting evening to say the least! I'm so glad we were able to visit! Now you see why I wouldn't get in the lens Judy!
