Assateague Island LH Visit (Part 1) "Outside"

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

As many of you know, Christina and I made a trip to the Assateague Island Lighthouse two weekends ago. In the past, the lighthouse has only been open to visitors twice a year, at Thanksgiving, and I believe during the Pony Swin weekend in July.

However, this summer has been a bit different. All summer long, through Thanksgiving, the lighthouse has been open Fri, Sat, and Sun from 9-3. Admission price is $4. With family living on Chincoteague, the island that sits to the west of Assateague, we decided to make a quick weekend trip to see and climb the Assateague light.

Here are a few photos of the lighthouse, from the outside. The weather was less than perfect, but we took photos anyway.

The day of our visit, there was a artist set up in the oil shed selling her art work and other lighthouse items, seen in this photo.

Damn.....it's looking pretty rough, Stephen. Maybe it'll
get painted in '06.

Thanks,
Brent

Wow, that tower is looking mighty rough. Certainly not the tower I saw several years ago. I'm going to have to dig out my photos to see just how much its changed. Thanks for the photos!
