The Assateague light is similar to other lights in that there is a storage building attached to the front of the tower, which also contains the entrance to the lighthouse.

In the storage building part of the tower, there are two rooms. When you walk in the door to the building, this is the room you enter. There were a number of informational items about the lighthouse to look at while you waited to climb the light. The entrance door to the tower is to the right, just outside the photo.

The other room, located to the right of the room in the previous photo, was being used as a gift/donation shop. Here is photo taken from the tower side of the room, looking toward the front of the building.

In the back of the tower at the "ground level," there is a window at the base of the tower. This is the window, and to access the window, you have to duck down and walk under the stairway.

This photo is looking down on the stairs about 10-15 steps up. You can see the above mentioned window area to the right.

On unique thing that I noticed about this light is this little "door" in the center post of the stairway. This was about half way up the stairway.

At the last landing, there was some duck tape on the stairs. The tape was holding signs on the top of the stairs warning of the low clearance ahead.

The final stairs to the gallery level, and the low clearance area.
