Peninsula Point Light Aug 23-05

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

looking south from lantern room and if you squint and look just to the right of center, you can see the Minneapolis Shoal Light :-)

My lady friend has a better zoom so this is her Minneapolis Shoal Light pic

Peninsula Point is also a huge migration stopover for the Monarch butterfly. There were several people there that day with cameras and butterfly nets enjoying themselves. You can read more about the Monarchs and Peninsula Point here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/hiawath ... narchs.htm

You couldn't have asked for a much nicer day to be out there! Gary and I talked about heading out to that light on our way up to Houghton for the WILD cruise, but the drive was just way too out of the way so we skipped it.

One of these days I'll make it up there, especially since you can see Minneapolis shoal so well, at 400mm I'll be able to mark that one off my list for sure!!

Nice to see some shots from there on a nice, sunny day. I was there two years ago and it was typical fall weather - windy and cold with clouds. Thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed all the photos. I also read the about the butterflies it is too bad none where pictured.

Here I go again asking questions, somewhere out there must be pictures of the lighthouse before it burned. Does anyone know of any pictures or web site about this?

Thanks Hersh, Jen, Beach and Carole and it was a beautiful day! :-) I don't know about everyone else but I do like pics whereas you can include the sky with clouds as I think they add another dimension to the photos.

Carole, my lady friend took most of the pics of the butterflys so here is one for you and also a link to a black and white Coast Guard photo of Peninsula Point. I do not know when the photo was taken: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/WEB ... apoint.JPG

The tower looks SO lonely without the rest of the lighthouse! :( Beautiful photos, though! Thanks. :D

Great pics. Do you have any of the interior of the tower itself?

Thanks Leah and Zach :-)

I liked this light tower, lonely but proud and defiant

Thanks again! Are the windows just barred like that or is there glass behind them?

Thank you for posting the butterfly photo. Also a special thanks to your lady friend for all the photos she took.

This is a lighthouse I want to huge. I felt sad about it being burned out. It is too bad that it could not be restored/rebuilt.
