The Stonington Cruise Lights

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

Finally got a few of my photos up from the cruise we took last Saturday out of Stonington Maine. Along with all of the lights below, we also saw Isle au Haut but for some strange reason, I didn't upload one of those photos yet.

This last one, Pumpkin Island was a bit of a bonus. Jeremy, Ross and I went over to get a view of this one after the cruise was finished. This one sits on an island just offshore. And as you drive along the road that leads to the view of the island, you round a bend and as Barry would say Voila! There it is! :D

Nice collection!

I am noticing that there are a number of short, white lighthouses in Maine.

Thanks Shirin for sharing these beautiful photos, and once again, taking us along.

I also enjoyed my early preview when they were "hot off the press". :D

Nice shots, Shirin! The cruise went well overall, and we were certainly lucky with the weather. It was a great bunch of people and a very pleasant time. I haven't had a chance to go through all my photos yet, but here are some:

Here also is a photo I took of Portland Head Light on the day before the cruise. The tower was just repainted and looks great.

What was that tower on the left in the foreground used for in your photo of Matinicus Rock?

Matinicus Rock was a twin light station until 1923, when the north light was discontinued. They removed the lantern from the tower and capped it. See

Amazing Shirin,

Four years of study in high school, three in college, and you exhaust the entire range of my French vocabulary in one sentence ... Sheesh! More seriously, talking of Pumpkin Island Lighthouse, I say how can you not love a light that you have to travel along Eggomoggin Reach to, well, reach?

I saw this light on my first trip north in 1999. I don't know why that light captured my fancy but it did. I was geared for MAINE ... Nubble, Portland Head, Bass Harbor, Owl's Head, West Quoddy ... when I got here and turned the corner I saw a water color waiting to come to life ... tranquility in perfect proportions ... a few pines ... a home ... and a light perfectly situated on this small scrap of land ... the water calm and lapping the shore ...

I love the time of day you captured here. I was there at 640am and, had I the knowledge and friends then that I have now, would have pictures far better than those that recorded this unexpected joy of a visit.

Thanks for posting that picture as well as the others.
