Bodie in the Afternoon

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

After finishing up at Chicamacomico, we headed north to photograph the Oregon Inlet LSS. The clouds were fast approaching and when we got there, we decided to skip it, thinking that we would not have gotten good photos due to the clouds. So we proceeded on and as we traveled the few miles north, the sun came back out just before we arrived at Bodie about 2pm.

We pulled in to park and then we were again swarmed by mosquitos. I hate putting on bug repellant and doubting that it would actually be effective, we made the decision to take our shots from inside the Xterra. So I pulled around, framing up the shots we wanted, and when in position, we rolled down the window just enough to get the camera lens out, and took our photos. Even though we only took a few photos, I am pleased with the way they turned out.

Where's your warrior spirit? Damn the insects, it's Bodie Island!!! Get out there and get eaten alive for your art!

But I must say, those do look good. Maybe I could start shooting from my truck once in a while.

So many great shots have been taken of BILH over the years (including these) and they all have one thing in common....everyone is a little different in one way or another.
It's always a treat to see current photos of it!! :)
Thanks Stephen and Christina!

Mike,

At last count, I have/had atl least 14 battle scars from the fight with those huge monster mosquitos. We have seen them there before as most people have, what amazed me was they were like a swarm of bees that were angry.

Yes, I wish now we would have put one the bug spray and went "further in to battle" but hey, I am sure there will be a next time.

By the way, we were on the Banks last year in October and we were wearing the "big" coats. This particular day I was out in shorts and a t-shirt. A major difference in the weather!
