DOH! Bodie Windows

Just got back from a lighthouse trip? Have you just finished photographing every aspect of one lighthouse? Post the pictures here! Lighthouse-related photos are also welcome.

A few months back, someone posted pictures of Twin Lights. Responses followed that until that posting, many had not noticed that the towers were of different shapes ... As an "indigenous folk," I knew that, yet was surprised that it took many posts over a number of years for others to make that realization ...

Well, surprised no more am I ...

Wednesday morning I spent a couple early hours at Bodie Island. Maybe this is my tenth, maybe my eleventh time there ... Never ... and I mean never ... in all my quite simplistic approach to the lights did I realize that all the windows on the west side were of one color ... black ... and all the windows on the east side were of the other color ... white 8O

Not sure that there is any significance to this ... but it would just seem the obvious didnt apply to the oblivious ... and that would mean me

They apparently correspond with the day mark.

Yes, true, but then you would have to assume I missed the other obvious fact ... that they are not on the same plane ... they are, as Kramer said, all about "levels"

... and of course, while at Assateague the day before, the dumb stick hadnt hit yet becasue, while I did walk around back, I never thought to look up and check out whether those windows were white or red ...

Funny how we can see something like this dozens of times and never really look at it. Even when you take the time to photograph it!

People in general do things, look at places etc... On autopilot. This is so true of when you are driving a familiar route. Or what about where you live? Has your home become stuck in 1960's or 1970's.

Yes I bet that people who have never seen a place look at it differently than people who see it all the time. I remember the first time I saw Biddeford. I thought what an old factory town. If in my driving I had turned left instead of right I would have had a view of the Saco River that still delights me and makes me glad I live in Biddeford.

I have said this in past posting, yes I have places I would like to go and visit. Right now for many reasons I cannot. I can be upset or get to discover what is near me. I think I could spent the rest of my life discovering the coast of Maine.

Good for you Barry on this discovery may you have many, many more in the future.

For the rest of the board would anyone care to share a type of story or situation like Barry just did?

The windows at Bodie are indeed on different levels as you go up the tower. Since the stripes go around and alternate white then black, there are both white & black windows.

I suspect Assateque would be the same, except where Assateque is concerned, ALL the paint is fading away.
