Refraction of Light

Forum to discuss all areas of lighthouse technology such as optics, fuels, fog signals, radiobeacons, daymarks, construction, etc.

Refraction or bending of light waves has been mentioned in several topics on this board.

In looking around the Internet I found a site with an interactive tool that illustrates light refraction. This tool allows one to change the angle the light, the type of light (white or monochromatic) and for the latter the color of the light waves.

This tool allows one to see some of what Fresnel was exploring when conducting his studies of light.

Here it is. Have fun.

That is pretty neat. I will have to read the article when I have more time.

Island,

A very interesting site. The best animation I have seen for refraction.

Thanks for pointing out the site.
