GLLKA Excursions for 2011

GLLKA has some great excursions planned for 2011, offering the opportunity to see some otherwise difficult to view lighthouses.

The Ultimate Northern Lake Michigan Excursion

Sunday June 26th - Thursday June 30
This incredible lighthouse adventure begins early Monday June 27th as we board the 100-foot vessel Keweenaw Star in Charlevoix Michigan. Over the following four days, we will make our way from Charlevoix across Lake Michigan for two nights in Sturgeon Bay and one night in Escanaba before returning to Charlevoix in Thursday afternoon. Along the way we will obtain close-up views from the water of 32 lighthouses, including the difficult to see lights at South Fox Island, Pilot Island, Minneapolis Shoal, Green Bay Harbor Entrance, Chambers Island, Tail Point, Green Island, Poverty and St. Martin Islands, Gull Island, Squaw Island and Lansing Shoal. The price for this amazing excursion for GLLKA members is only $1,150.00 per person double occupancy, and $1,375.00 per person single occupancy. This price includes all hotels, meals and transportation, from Sunday night through our return to Charlevoix Thursday afternoon, with the only exceptions being your meal on Sunday night. Non GLLKA members will need to add $40 for a 1-year individual membership or $60 for a 1-year family membership in order to participate.

St. Marys River and Soo Locks Excursion
Monday August 22nd & Tuesday August 23rd
Back by popular demand - we depart Shepler's Ferry Dock at 8 am on Monday, August 22, and sail east through Round Island Passage past DeTour and up the winding St. Marys River. Expert narration, pop/water/coffee and a light lunch will be provided as you and your shipmates enjoy getting to know each other. Lighthouses we will see on our way will be Round Island, Round Island Passage, Bois Blanc Light, Martin Reef Light, DeTour Reef Light, Frying Pan ,Pipe & and Round Island, Shoal Island and the Wilson Channel Ranges. We will pass Neebish Island, St. Joseph Island and Sugar Island as we approach historic Sault Ste. Marie, where we will dock and be transported to our hotel for dinner and our overnight stay at the Kewadin Casino. After an early breakfast Tuesday morning we will be transported back to the boat around 7am. Before our return trip, we will pass through the Soo Locks and up to the Gros Cap light and past Point Iroquois Lighthouse. Our return trip will be through the Rock Cut where we will share this narrow passage with Great Lakes freighters. Time permitting, we will pass Spectacle Reef Light, Poe Reef Light and Fourteen Foot Shoal Light and perhaps even inter the Cheboygan River to view the USCGC Mackinaw and the Cheboygan River Front Range Light. We should be back in Mackinaw City by 5pm on Tuesday, August 23rd. Cost for GLLKA members is $495.00 per person double occupancy or $550.00 single occupancy. Non-members should add an additional $45 for a 1-year individual membership or $60 for a 1-year family membership.

Lake Erie North Shore and Eastern Basin Excursion
Wednesday September 21st through Saturday September 24
We start this amazing excursion Wednesday evening with an al fresco dinner at the South Bass Island lighthouse and a night at the Put-In-Bay Resort. The next morning we board the Jet Express IV for a fast trip across Lake Erie into Candian waters to see the lights at Rondeau, Port Stanley and Port Burwell. We then head back across the lake for two nights at the Bayfront Inn in Erie, Pennsylvania. The next mroning we head back across the lake to see the lights at Long Point, Port Dover, Port Maitland,, Mohawk Island, Port Colburne and Point Abino. We then head back into US waters to see all six lights in Buffalo Harbor before passing the Dunkirk light on our way back to Ere, PA. .Saturday morning we see all the US lights along the southern shore as we make our way to Port Clinton, with a stop along the way to tour the Astabula Harbor lighthouse. Our excursion ends with a gala dinner and a good night's rest in Port Clinton. The price for this amazing excursion for GLLKA members is $1,285.00 per person double occupancy, and $1,535.00 per person single occupancy. This price includes all hotels, meals and transportation, from Wednesday night through check-out on Sunday morning. Non GLLKA members will need to add $40 for a 1-year individual membership or $60 for a 1-year family membership in order to participate.
